In this two week project during the UX Certificate program through Coursera, I worked as the sole designer in all steps of the design process; Empathise, Design, Ideate, Prototype and Test.

Challenge: Create a floral catalog app in busy London to help users save time during the ordering and checkout process.

Solution: The London Floral app offers an easily accessible catalog and multiple checkout options such as, Next Day Delivery, Scheduled Delivery and Pickup.

Research: Upon selected Sharpen prompt, I contemplated how to create a Floral Catalog that was easy to navigate and also saved time. My research goals were to determine how much time would be saved with a purchase through the app to be picked up in the shop and if users were saving time navigating the catalog through the app vice viewing the selections in the shop.

Define the user: Meet Kim, a mom, hair stylist and freelance florist who is dedicated to bringing joy to others with her hair styling and gorgeous floral arrangements. Her main frustration is the time she spends stuck in traffic trying to make it to the floral shop and she often is late to her son’s baseball games.

Her main frustration is the time she spends stuck in traffic trying to make it to the floral shop and she often is late to her son’s baseball games.

Research Methodology: Unmoderated Usability Study where users would browse the catalog through the app and place the order for pickup and keep track of their time. The users would also browse the floral collection in the shop, place purchase there and keep track of their time.

Insight: Survey results revealed that browsing the catalog via the app saved significant time than driving to the shop and viewing selection; however, the pickup option did not save much time at all.

Wireframing: With multiple checkout options for the user to save time

Result

Multiple checkout options with easy navigation, saves the user time when browsing and ordering flowers

Multiple checkout options with easy navigation, saves the user time when browsing and ordering flowers

Impact: This is an exciting, easy to use app with many options to fit the needs of the users and for those who frequent London Floral. The ultimate goal was to create an app that allowed users to browse the available flowers to save time and that goal was achieved.

Lessons Learned: I learned a great deal about the users and their experience and all the wonderful insights that they brought to my attention that I hadn’t considered in my initial wireframes.
